HS2 phase two announcement: reaction

The government has announced its preferred route for the second phase of the High Speed Two rail link north of Birmingham. The latest reaction to the news can be found below.

    Not sure any HS route should be agreed before the government stop prevaricating and make some decisions on airport capacity, should these major infrastrure transport links not connect up?

    Also, it wont drive growth, its many years away, does the chancellor think we will still be in depression for that long? If so, bring on the next government please.

    A comparable line in spain actually resulted in no growth for the secondary area and more growth for the primary….so london may grow more at the expense of the regions..

    I’m not against HS2, but on capacity issues alone. i do wonder if upgrades to existing systems may have been cheaper and some money could have been spent on delivering superfast broadband nationwide and so cut down the need to travel…
